Carol Boswell and Sharon Cannon have been chosen as item writers for the educational certification program being instituted by NLN. They are very excited at having been chosen for this first time endeavor to prepare a certification examination to address the role expectations for nursing faculty.

Ann Laurence has been appointed Director, Education and Training Programs, Garrison Institute on Aging. She reports that the Geriatric Education & Training Academy received a gift from a private donor in the amount of $250,000. The Academy is administered jointly through the SON and the Garrison Institute on Aging with oversight by Dr. Ana Valadez and Ann.

Ann Laurence will be co-presenter at the annual Texas Conference on Aging on April 25, 2005. The presentation is entitled “West Texas Cares: A collaboration to Educate Rural Caregivers.”

Emily Merrill has had a poster accepted for the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners Annual Conference in Fort Lauderdale, FL in June, 2005.

Virginia Miller’s book review was published: Business Concepts for Healthcare Providers: A quick Reference for Midwives, PNs, Pas, CNSs and Other Disruptive Innovators”. The author is Joan Slager and the publisher is Jones and Bartlett (2004). The review was published in the March/April issue of the Journal of Continuing Education in Nursing (Vol. 36, No. 2), pg. 92.
